Martha Trachtenberg

Martha Trachtenberg is a founding member of the Buffalo Gals, the first all-female bluegrass band. She has sung on records by Marty Stuart, Tony Trischka, Stacey Phillips, Lewis London and Bottle Hill, as well as on commercials for everything from Miller Beer, Campbell's Soup and Kudos to Red Lobster Seafood Restaurants and Easy Bake toy ovens. Her solo for Folger's Coffee brought calls from friends and fans across the country who recognized her distinctive voice.

An accomplished songwriter as well, Martha has had songs recorded by the Buffalo Gals, Tony Trischka and Skyline, Kathy Chiavola, Eileen Sharkey and Colleen Grace. Two of her songs were chosen by Robbie Wolliver of the Long Island Voice for its local-artist compilation CDs, Those Damn Folkies and Jilted. The Better Half, a collaboration with her husband, Tom Griffith, was named one of the top ten albums of 1997 by the Long Island Voice. Her composition "Ticket Back" was chosen as the title cut for the Skyline compilation Ticket Back: A Retrospective, released by Rounder in 1998.

It's About Time is Martha's first solo album. Produced and arranged by award-winning producer and composer Tom Griffith, it features as guest artists the internationally renowned jazz bassist Eddie Gomez; chart-topping singer Michael Johnson ("Bluer Than Blue," "Almost Like Being in Love," "The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder"); Grammy ¨ award-winner Marty Stuart (member of the Grand Ole Opry and mandolinist extraordinaire); and world-famous banjo innovator Tony Trischka.
